I feel the need to link back to this post previously written on the subject back in 2010 and this one earlier this year. I knew it would get clogged up and it has. The 2014 Baseball Hall of Fame ballot is out and there is no way to pick just ten. While I might have gone through each player in previous years, for now I will simply give you my ten picks:
Greg Maddux
Tom Glavine
Barry Bonds
Roger Clemens
Frank Thomas
Jeff Bagwell
Craig Biggio
Mark McGwire
Mike Piazza
Tim Raines
That's the best I can do. This leaves out Fred McGriff and Edgar Martinez, Curt Schilling and Sammy Sosa, Jack Morris and Mike Mussina. Oh, and Bonds' "best friend" on those Giants teams, Jeff Kent. Not even yet to include Randy Johnson, John Smoltz and Pedro Martinez. Is it the ten vote limit making the ballot so stuffed? Is it so many great players from the 90's creating that log jam? Or is it intransigence from the voters over steroids? Take your pick. Pete Rose and Shoeless Joe still wait outside. And while writers/voters keep to their holier than thou attitude, so will a lot of deserving players remain outside (note that Maddux will not get 100% of the vote...calling it right now.) In fact, some may fall off the ballot all together. That would be the biggest travesty. Hell, Lou Whitaker has to wait for the veterans committee while his double play partner, Trammell continues to toil on the ballot. Fair? Well, life isn't fair and neither is the Baseball Hall of Fame. I do love it so.
I am still hoping for a Cox, Maddux, Glavine election this time around. We'll find out about the first part of that next month. Go Braves. That is all.
