An actor from my favorite film died yesterday. It's not the first time, nor will it be the last, but it is a moment to take pause. I thought Scheider was one of the better actors of the 70's, particularly enjoying his work in of course Jaws, but also All That Jazz and The French Connection as well as The Men's Club. He could play a regular Joe or a very detailed character role and was electric regardless. While it sounds as though he had been ill for a time, I was not aware of it. It may not come as a shock to those who knew about it, but his death does come as a shock to me. I always hold out hope for that last great role in my favorite actors, and unfortunately that day will not arrive for Roy Scheider. We do have his existant body of work, however, and that ought to be enough for anybody. Go home and watch Jaws tonight. You won't be disappointed. Rest in peace, Roy. Farewell and adieu. And have a Brody sized glass of whatever you want now. That is all.
