Twenty Six years ago, John Lennon was shot outside of his apartment building in New York City. I try to do some commemoration each year on that day. This year, I decided to use a younger picture of John because sometimes that is how I prefer to remember him. He was an inspiration, even if a maddening one at times. And I am remembering him this year not by listening to his own music, but that of a good friend - Harry Nilsson. A friend of mine loaned me his greatest hits not long ago and I have been hooked since then. I've even ordered Pussy Cats, the John Lennon produced Nilsson album made while they were drugging it up in L.A. during 1974.
As the day goes along and I find other bloggers posting on Lennon, I'll link to them here. In years past there have either been a lot or a little. But I'll always remember the man as one of my strongest influences in my youth and one of my very favorite artists. A true original and a loss very difficult to take for me at times. His star was so very bright that the lack of it now leaves that much more darkness.
EDIT - Well, I didn't see too many spend much word on the man this year, and that is a shame. But I can link back to my post last year that is pretty comprehensive, including a suggested play-list of songs to listen to (and even got linked by the great Althouse.) Check it out. That is all.
