Some great SEC games yesterday, and a bit of a shake up in the top 25 as a result. Granted, Florida and LSU cannot fall too far down as both games were close, but it did make the pecking order of the conference a bit more clear. Here is this week's top 25:
1. USC (3-0)
2. Oklahoma (3-0)
3. Miami (2-0)
4. Georgia (3-0)
5. Texas (2-0)
6. West Virginia (3-0)
7. Ohio State (3-0)
8. Auburn (3-0)
9. Tennessee (2-0)
10. LSU (2-1)
11. Florida State (1-1)
12. Florida (1-1)
13. California (2-0)
14. Virginia (3-0)
15. Utah (3-0)
16. Minnesota (3-0)
17. Purdue (2-0)
18. Michigan (2-1)
19. Wisconsin (3-0)
20. Maryland (2-1)
21. Missouri (2-1)
22. Fresno State (3-0)
23. Kansas State (2-1)
24. Boise State (3-0)
25. Iowa (2-1)
It was very hard keeping Oklahoma State (3-0) out of this ranking, but Iowa could not completely fall out, nor could Maryland. As well, Louisville, Memphis and even Notre Dame are playing some great football. Iowa faces Michigan next week, so that should knock one of them out. But the rest of the slate is a bit bare. At least six top 25 teams have a bye week next Saturday. Outside of that Iowa/Michigan game, the best games to watch seem to be Florida State/Clemson, Utah/Air Force, maybe LSU/Mississippi State and even perhaps Louisville/North Carolina after NC's shocking pasting of GA Tech this weekend.
The real fun starts the week after when Georgia faces LSU. And I have to admit, I am scared. Georgia just has not looked impressive so far this year. If they play the way they have been against Florida, LSU, Tennessee and Auburn, I cannot see us getting out of any of those games with a win. Still, I am keeping the faith. Till next week...that is all.
Go Bears! I cannot tell you what a thrill it is to see California in a top 25 poll after so many years of futility.
