Claudia Rosett has penned an interesting piece for the Wall Street Journal arguing that the U.N. should use some of the money left over from the defunct Oil-for-Food program to assist in a monument remembering those who died from Saddam's atrocities between 1968 and 2003. It's certainly a better idea and more useful place for them than trying to oversee elections, as she argues.
I have not written much on the Oil-for-Food scandal, because I'm not yet sure what went down exactly. But it does not look good for the U.N., France or Russia, among others. If some of the allegations are true, it certainly explains the obtuseness of the two countries listed above.
