Speaking of Cold Mountain, the Oscar nominations came out this morning. You can find the complete list here. It's always difficult for me to judge the winners since I have not seen all the movies, but I am predicting Charlize Theron and Bill Murray to take the top honors this year in acting. And if Peter Jackson does not win Best Director, I may quit watching the Oscars completely. This man deserves the award for what he has done with these films. Hands down! In fact, if people want to give the Best Picture to Coppola's Lost in Translation, that would be fine with me as long as Jackson wins for Director.
Couple of other notes - is it me, or is Johnny Depp a little out of place here? I'm sorry, but I just didn't think he was that good in Praites of the Caribbean. And would it kill people to nominate Sean Astin or Ian McKellan? I know it's a fantasy film, but I hear they were wonderful, especially Astin. Also - I think there needs to be another catagory now, what with the special effects we see now in almost every film. Something along the lines of Best Digitally Enhanced Performance or Best Performance Assited by Another Medium...something. Point is, Andy Serkis deserves something for his phenomenal work in the LOTR films. Just like Robin Williams in Aladdin or Ellen Degeneres (sp?) in Finding Nemo. Let's keep up with the times, folks.
As we get closer to Oscar night (February 29th this year) I will put out my full list of winner pics. And I am thinking of doing a blogothon that night, but I have not decided yet. We'll see.
Edit - And I just found out that Blake Edwards will be receiving an honorary Oscar. Very well deserved if you ask me!
That is all.
