I am indeed late to the party in putting up my postseason picks. I needed a day or two after the late season drive/collapse of the Braves. Look...they got there, right? That's what counts! How many times has ESPN and MLB told us that "Anything Can Happen!!!"? I picked four out of the eight postseason participants at the start of the season. 162 games later, the Yankees are not division winners, but they do get to play more games in October. And if you'll notice, I picked the AL Central perfectly. That doesn't happen too often. I actually got the NL East right too. And there's the rub...can the Braves keep up with my predictions?
Division Series:
Rays over Rangers
Twins over Yankees
Phillies over Reds
Braves over Giants
* * *
Championship Series:
Rays over Twins
Braves over Phillies
* * *
And the World Series:
Atlanta Braves over Tampa Bay Rays in 7 games.
At least that was the scenario when the postseason started...or something like it. Other teams may have some differing attitudes to that. Especially Texas. Still, I am willing to stick by these...at least until I am proved wrong. Obviously the Rays are down by two now and the Twins lost a tough one yesterday. But the Braves have yet to start as of this writing and I look (and hope) for them to come out patient and willing to take a walk or two.
To be entirely objective, most people would pick NY and Philly here, with the Phillies winning it after the no hitter last night. It's a loooong postseason. And I guess I'd have to agree with ESPN and MLB (it doesn't happen often)...anything can happen.
EDIT - A little background on Lowe's September for those worried about tonight's game. Capital Avenue Club has been bringing great analysis all season.
That is all.
