Allen...This movie is AWFUL! I watched it a week or so ago and it is just excrement.

How, one might ask, does a person go about making a movie about something as awesome as friggin' Nazi zombies and fail (utterly and completely)?

Watching this movie will answer that question far better than my words ever could.

AL Hurd

Really? Is it even possible to ruin such a premise? Wow. I saw a scene from it and it looked pretty good. I mean, all you really want is lots of blood, Nazis eating brains and some breasts. How does one not deliver on this?

Andy Williams

"All you really want is lots of blood, Nazis eating brains and some breasts"? Not since the reign of Jeff Craig during the heyday of 60 Second Preview have I seen such low expectations for film. Is this all we want from our Nazi Zombie cinema? This viewer expects more. For the Nazi Zombie is not simply a flesh eating ghoul in tattered brownshirt, but a symbol of a resurgent far right in Europe. That said, avoid Jean Rollin's 'Zombie Lake' at all cost. And 'Oasis of the Zombies' is as bad as every other film it's director,Jess Franco, has made. To date, the best Nazi Zombie film is,I think, 'Shock Waves' (1976). The cast includes Peter Cushing, John Carradine, the lovely Brooke Adams and Luke 'Flipper' Halpin. There's very little blood and no nudity, but it's an entertaining film. And one that could actually be improved by a remake. Andy

AL Hurd

Well now Andy, you are assuming I have your vast knowledge of zombie films. As you clearly stated, my expectations are rather low. In truth, I don't really care about a political message, or any message for that matter, in my horror. I guess I don't mind it but it certainly ain't necessary. Blood, boobs and perhaps more blood and boobs are what do it for me. Oh, and let us not forget brains, hopefully being devoured by some poor fool who's life has been snuffed out.

And of course, your statement tends to lose some of it's weight when we consider that you too are a lover of The Mad Butcher which has no discernable message other than to not eat sausage while in Vienna.

I will however endeavor to look up some of these fine films you offer because if zombies are involved, I usually smile. And good to hear from you sir. Wish I had more to offer on the site, these days. Been a bit dry.

As usual, Hurd, you see only the surface. If we peel back the casing of 'The Mad Butcher' (a.k.a Il Strangolatore di Vienna) we see in the performance of Victor Buono one of cinema's most convincing portraits of psychopathology. Buono's Otto is an everyman driven mad by authoritarianism in repressive nineteenth century Vienna. These themes are explored in detail in 'The Mad Butcher and the Decline of the Habsburg Empire' by Frederick O. Bullshite,III. I recommend it to all movie lovers. And those who have read Bullshite know what to expect. I hope you have more to offer on the site soon. Andy

All of that was way too clever for me to f*#k with. I got nothin'.
